The aims of this study are to develop criteria of smartphone overuse and to examine the discriminative ability and the validity of the criteria in adolescents. All data were analyzed using the data from Korea youth risk behavior web-based survey of 13th, and the sample size was 54,603. Frequency analysis, independent t test, reliability analysis, Spearman correlation analysis, regression analysis, and ROC analysis were used for statistical analysis. In this study, Smartphone overuse scale (SOS) 1 and SOS 2 were scored as total scores. In result, the internal consistency between the items of scale 1 was Cronbach's =.619. Weekday and weekend smartphone usage time(min/day) had a significant affect on SOS 2(p<.001, R2=.019, p<.001, R2=026). People with problems of smartphone use, service of high rate of addiction, and injury experiences due to smartphone use had a significantly higher duration of smartphone use than those who did not(p<.05). The ROC analysis results showed a cut-off value of weekdays 185(sensitivity=.488; specificity=.708), weekend 245(sensitivity=.590; specificity=.577) in boys while a cut-off value of weekdays 195(sensitivity=.623; specificity=.607), weekend 365(sensitivity=.563; specificity=.650) in girls. This study found the criteria for excessive smartphone use. This findings could be used as a basic data for future health care of adolescents. |
