논문내용 This paper presents an immersive training system which helps learners to learn taper cutting and grooving on the Engine Lathe in a virtual environment. The proposed immersive training system enables users to perform repeated training in a safe environment. In a virtual environment composed of various equipment and facilities, users are able to not only clearly identify target objects but also immediately check the results of the practical training, resulting in understanding his/her training proficiency. The visual feedback and interactivity in the virtual reality training system enhances user’s immersion and enables users to do a self-directed learning experience. Due to these advantage, the user makes a plan, monitors and reflects on their learning contents in a safe environment. We conducted the usability test of the proposed virtual reality based training system considering the role and the function of self-directed learning experience. The test was done by investigating four items (the quality of the developed content, interface between users and virtual environment, educational environment, and the degree of immersion). Results indicate that we have satisfaction average score (4.4) on the usability test, and among the items, the score for the quality of the developed content was the highest (4.7). The proposed system will lead to the development of efficient educational media which causes motivation to study for most of learners. If the proposed system is used for self-directed learners, it will be of great service for the learners.
