Research institutes manage research documents such as journal articles, report papers, gray documents and so on with institutional repository (IR). Recently, sharing dataset is becoming more important. By sharing datasets to others, research reliability can be improved and the opportunity for new discoveries grows. But compared to the IR development, there are few studies for developing institutional data repository (IDR). There exist various issues to be resolved for data service such as data management plan (DMP), metadata schema design, data policy, and IDR implementation. In this article, we introduce those issues and our experiences for developing IDR and data service. First, we asked researchers about characteristics of research data produced in the institute and then collected existing research dataset files. Next, we established metadata schema, institutional data management plan (DMP), and data classification scheme covering all data types produced in the institute. Also policy for collecting and sharing datasets were established. Last, we implemented the data repository that supports those features. Since our study covers whole steps of IDR development as well as the common difficulties that the developers may face when considering their own IDR in various research domains, it will be a useful reference for any research institute. |
