The aim of this study was to investigate the differences of the disabilities awareness according to the sociodemographic characteristics of occupational therapists, and the influences of the personality traits and the self-esteem of occupational therapists on disabilities awareness. The researchers analyzed the questionnaire of 217 occupational therapists through the snowball sampling. The big five Inventory-Korean version-10, Rosenberg self-esteem scale, and disabilities awareness questionnaire were used to assess personality traits, self-esteem, and disabilities awareness. The disability awareness according to the sociodemographic characteristics was analyzed through independent t test or one-way ANOVA. Stepwise multi-regression analysis or simple-regression analysis was used to analyze factors affecting the disability awareness, and influences of the personality traits and the self-esteem of occupational therapists on the disabilities awareness. As a result of comparing the disability awareness according to the sociodemographic characteristics, the disabilities awareness was more positive than none respondents. Factors influencing the self-esteem were conscientiousness, neuroticism, education level, and openness. The self-esteem did not affect disabilities awareness. Factors affecting the disabilities awareness were identified in the order of neuroticism, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. These findings show that occupational therapists' personality traits can affect the awareness of disabilities, and that the self-esteem does not act as a mediator in the relationship between the personality traits and awareness of disabilities. |
