The aim of this study was investigated to compared the activation for suprahyoid and sternocleidomastoid muscle according to gender and resistance intensity of the Laryngeal Elevation Strengthening(LES) device during the Chin Tuck Againist Resistance exercise(CTAR). Twenty four healthy men and women without swallowing problem was participated in our study. All subjects is performed to each the CTAR using the LES devices of three thickness of each others resistance, the 3 mm, the 5 mm, the 7 mm. The CTAR according to three resistance conducted one minute interval, each 3 times, isometric exercise. Order of exercises performed to randomize. During each exercises, suprahyoid and sternocleidomastoid muscle activity is identified by the electromyography. For statistical analysis according to difference of resistance intensity and gender, analyzed by two way ANOVA with repeated measure. Findings of this study, Interaction effects according to resistance intensity and gender was not significant(p>.05). In within subjects effects, resistance of the 7 mm LES devices, suprahyoid and sternocleidomastoid muscles activity was greater significantly than the 5 mm and the 3 mm(p<.05). From results of this study, the CTAR using the 7 mm LES device was demonstrated the highest activation of suprahyoid muscle. In next studies, we recommend that need to measurements for swallowing function in patients with dysphagia. |
