논문내용 This study aimed to understand the interconnection structure of academic fields in convergence major education by examining the tied structure and attributes of the words included in the names of university convergence departments, convergence majors, and interdisciplinary majors. To achieve the objectives of the study, names of 906 convergence departments, 686 convergence majors, and 466 interdisciplinary majors operated by 4-year universities were collected, and social network analysis was conducted. The research results are as follows. First, most convergence departments were either pursuing convergence within engineering field or convergence with business administration. And there were convergence departments that were not significantly different from existing department names. This indicates that the convergence departments belonging to the Convergence College proceeded by incorporating convergence into the names of colleges while maintaining the existing departments of the College of Engineering. Second, convergence majors and interdisciplinary majors were relatively attempting to connect a variety of academic fields for convergence, compared to convergence departments. They were establishing close connections not only with engineering and business administration but also with disciplines such as sociology, cultural studies, and design. However, it was still evident that boundaries between academic fields remained. Based on these research findings, it is proposed that efforts to establish convergence departments should extend beyond engineering-focused initiatives and be pursued in other colleges as well. Furthermore, convergence majors and interdisciplinary majors are encouraged to move beyond their current passive approaches to convergence and venture into bold attempts at integrating diverse academic domains.
