The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of respiratory muscle strengthening training on oral and facial and respiratory muscle strength. Eighteen subjects without swallowing problems were randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group inflated a balloon made of natural latex material to a minor diameter of 18cm or more, and the control group was instructed to exhale after taking a maximum breath after removing the resistance by removing the back of the balloon. For evaluation, four types of oral and facial muscles were measured with the IOPI(Iowa Oral Performance Instrument), and MIP(Maximal Inspiratory Pressure) and MEP(Maximal Expiratory Pressure) were measured with a Micro RPM(Micro Respiratory Pressure Meter). As a result of the evaluation using IOPI, there was a statistically significant difference in 4 items of orofacial muscle before and after intervention in the experimental group (p<.05), and there was a significant difference in 1 item in the control group. As a result of the evaluation using MicroRPM, both the experimental group and the control group showed a statistically significant difference in MEP. Through this study, it was confirmed that respiratory muscle strengthening training is a corrective method that can help improve oral and facial muscle strength and respiratory muscle strength in normal adults. |
