This study aims to improve lectures by comparing and analyzing first-year students' perceptions, issues, and requirements for engaging in classes in person and online that they had participated at two-year colleges and four-year universities over the past three years under the Pandemic of COVID-19. A total of 1,339 freshmen were asked to answer the questionnaires to get to know their perception of online lectures in 2021 and 2020 and in-person classes in 2022. Those freshmen entered the first semester of 2020, 2021, and 2022 and 500 of them were from two-year colleges, and 839 were from four-year universities. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, three factors such as 'lecture attendance,' 'lecture results,' and 'lecture improvement' were extracted from the data analyzed through the questionnaire for this study. Secondly, there was a significant difference between the universities, gender, and year in the F-test comparison of in-person and online lectures among factors of 'lecture attendance,' 'lecture results' and 'lecture improvement,' and the awareness scores of freshmen were higher for in-person lectures compared to online ones. Thirdly, the perception of female students from four-year universities with in-person classes in 2022 was higher than in online lectures. Fourthly, improving lectures required from first-year students were advanced evaluation methods, practicum education, and various communication. These results suggest that universities should construct an infrastructure for in-person and online lectures stabilized and apply the teaching methods which offer online lectures with traits of in-person lectures. They should also create content and secure the fairness and trust in evaluating students and interactions in academic supporting activities. |
