Nowadays, as the game community gets bigger and it desires better graphics and higher framerate, there comes a need of faster and better game engines, as most of the current ones are either old, or use old approaches. A multithreading is perceived as a task difficult to implement and not fully developed yet. It is often avoided by developers, as it requires a lot of work to correctly implement, but the resulting increase of performance is worth the costs. As there are not many game engines that use multithreading in its full potential, the aim of the research is to project and propose a multithreaded 3D game engine architecture as well as to present the main systems that are used to create such a 3D game engine. The research will focus on the technology and architecture of the game engine and its subsystems together with data structures and algorithms used to create them. The scientific goal of the research is to design an architecture of a game engine that uses multiple processor cores and threads and an algorithm that will select which component requires the most processing power. The cognitive goal of the work is to examine the performance of the proposed architecture and the algorithm. The practical goal of the work is to compare different versions of the game engine to determine the suitability of the new, designed architecture and the algorithm. |
