The purpose of this study is to confirm whether smartphone use time affects smartphone over-dependence,and to explore the factors affecting smartphone use time by subdividing them into smartphone use purposeand smartphone use time limit method. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, a regression analysiswas conducted using media usage data of 1,986 elementary school students surveyed by the National YouthPolicy Institute in 2020. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that smartphoneover-dependence increased as daily smartphone usage time increased. Second, the case of using a smartphonefor online games had the highest daily use time, followed by the case of using the smartphone for videoviewing, and the case of the purpose of communication had the lowest daily use time. In addition, parentalcompulsory restrictions of smartphone use time did not reduce elementary school students' smartphone usetime, but self-regulatory limitations of smartphone use time significantly reduced. In addition, it was foundthat the reduction effect of the smartphone usage time of this self-regulatory limitations applies to both casesin which the main purpose of smartphone use is online games and video viewing. Based on the researchresults, it was suggested that a parent education program to understand the meaning of self-limitation andpractice the approach is needed for parents, and that a student education program to help them recognize theimportance of establishing rules for using smartphone and to help them develop self-control. |
