This study examined the mediating effect of regulated interdependence of conflict resolution strategies on the influence of perceived parental marital conflict on interpersonal relationship competence among university students. The participants in the study consisted of 187 university students, and data necessary for the study were collected using questionnaires on parental marital conflict, interpersonal relationship competence, conflict resolution strategies, and interdependence. The collected data were analyzed using the statistical software SPSS 18.0 and the PROCESS macro model 7. The results of the study are as follows: First, it was found that interdependence mediates the relationship between parental marital conflict and interpersonal relationship competence. Second, it was found that conflict resolution strategies have a moderating effect on the relationship between parental marital conflict and interdependence. Third, it was found that interdependence, as a mediating variable, is moderated by conflict resolution strategies, affecting interpersonal relationship competence. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that to minimize the impact of parental marital conflict on interdependence and enhance interpersonal relationship competence among university students, positive conflict resolution strategies should be developed. Additionally, awareness of interdependence should be promoted to reduce the negative impact of interdependence and encourage the selection of positive conflict resolution strategies. These findings provide a foundation for the development of counseling programs and their utilization in counseling sessions aimed at minimizing the effects of parental marital conflict on interdependence and improving interpersonal relationship competence. |
