The study aims to explore novice social workers’ field adaptation process and discuss future tasks in the social welfare practice field and university education. To this end, this study selects five novice social workers with less than three years of experience in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do as research participants. Subsequently, this study collects and analyzes their field adaptation process by applying qualitative research methods. The survey was conducted for a month in October 2022, and the interview took about an hour. All interviews were recorded with the consent of the study participants, and the transcript was written by transferring immediately after recording. Consequently, the experience of social workers participating in the study was classified into three core categories and eight sub-components. The results reveal that the new social workers initially experienced difficulties as they dreaded and felt lost. However, they accumulated experience, gradually got used to the practice in the field, and adapted to the social welfare field with encouragement, support, and confidence. In addition, in order to adapt in the field, it was necessary to have confidence and an active and active attitude. The findings exhibit the importance of support measures in the social welfare practice field and university education. |
