The purpose of this study is to understand the image of the preschool children's friendship through the picture drawn by the young children. To achieve the purpose of the study, a picture analysis was conducted on 120 young children aged 4 to 5 years old attending three kindergartens located in Seoul. As a result of the study, the image of friendship recognized by young children is: First, the preschool children formed an image of a best friend relationship with one person in kindergarten. Second, the preschool children formed an image of their relationship with a small number of close friends in kindergarten. The preschool children formed groups of close friends centered on commonalities. However, it was not easy to form and maintain relationships when a small number of friendships were formed centered on the preschool children who were best friends. Third, the preschool children formed an image of close relationship with all of their classmates about their friendship in kindergarten. The results of this study suggest that teachers in the field should guide by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the friendships of young children. In addition, it is suggested that young children should be helped to open their minds and approach not only their close friends and a few friends, but also all of their classmates. |
