This study aimed to find out the factors influencing the digital information competency of the elderly disabilities by disabilities type. This study used data from the 2020 Digital Divide Survey Conducted by National Information Society Agency for analysis and analyzed 1634 elderly and disabled people. The factors that can affect the digital information competency of the elderly with disabilities are demographic and social factors such as gender, education level, household income, employment status, and residential area, disabilities characteristics factors such as disability period and degree of disability, information accessibility factors such as PC ownership, and smartphone ownership, psychological factors such as motives for using digital devices, and attitudes toward new technologies. As a result of the analysis, the influence of demographic variables was found to be different for each type of disability. The effect of disability period was confirmed only in the elderly with physical disabilities and the elderly with brain lesions. The possession of digital devices such as PCs and smartphone was found to have an impact in all types of disabilities, but the degree and aspect of the influence differed by type of disability. Attitudes toward new technologies was found to have an impact in all types of disabilities, but the degree and aspect of the influence were found to be differ by type of disability. In order to improve the digital information competency of the elderly with disabilities, there should be customized support for each type of disability. |
