논문내용 During COVID‐19 pandemic, the stress of infection and strict social distance will increase negative emotions such as depression, anxiety, social isolation, sleep disturbance and lack of work performance. The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of internet addiction in an association between social isolation and depression. Participants were 218 Korean university students who completed an on-line questionnaire including CES-D-10(Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale), ESLI(Emotional/Social Aspects of Loneliness and Isolation), and KS-A(Korean Internet Addiction Proneness Scale). In the regression analysis, social isolation was significantly associated with depression. University students with higher levels of Internet addiction were more likely to be higher in depression. In addition, internet addiction partially mediated the association between social isolation and depression. It is important to systemize public health strategies that emphasize the importance of physical activities to prevent the prevalence of social isolation, internet addiction and depression. Next, the competence of counseling centers in universities should be expanded by monitoring the extent of internet addiction among students, and providing students with preventive education and therapeutic resources in community. First, in order to prevent Internet addiction, social networks should be expanded through physical activities. Next, efforts are needed to expand the role of the student counseling center at each university. Lastly, if Internet addiction is left unattended, it can cause serious problems, so it is necessary to establish a more systematic prevention system.
